& got his oats all in a little after 3 oclock  
Saturday  to day Amos went to the other place & stacked some hay that had been cut on shair cut on shair:  shares, helping a farmer harvest
his crops, taking part of the crop as payment for labor

1)      Look at the picture “Denison Hill, c. 1890, from Denison family album.  Describe what you see.
What is the season?  Tell why you think this is so.
2)  Read diary entries and notes for August 17-22.  Discuss quilting bees and why they were so important in Delia’s day.
3)  Read all the diary entries and make a list of all the crops that Delia talks about harvesting during those fall months.
4)  Read the description of Delia’s diary.  Using lined paper, brown paper bags, and yarn, make a diary like Delia’s.  Use the diary to keep track of what you did for a week in the fall.  Did your diary have any entries about fall or harvest related activities?
