A
Brookside Harvest is a program designed to meet the needs of
teachers and students in the study of social studies in
kindergarten and grade 1 (NYS Learning Standards 1.1, 1.2, 1.3,
and 1.4). A similar program is available for pre-K students.
The program is a living history celebration of 19th century
American traditions in rural Saratoga County.
The program includes demonstrations and hands-on activities
in gathering the harvest, preserving and cooking the harvest,
keeping warm, and having fun.
This
program runs for one week in early October for K-1 and group
sessions last for an hour and a quarter.
Fees for the program are $2.50 per student for education
member schools and $3.00 per student for non-member schools.
Programs
for pre-K students last for an hour and a quarter and the teacher
may select either preserving apples or preserving corn for their
program topic. Fees for pre-K programs are $2.50 per student
