EVERYTHING we do requires volunteer help. Below are a few ways in which you could help out Brookside:
Our popular educational programs bring hundreds of schoolchildren, teachers, parents, and community members to Brookside every year. Volunteers help us in a variety of ways working with school groups, helping with lectures, greeting guests and helping visitors find their way around the site during programs. Our programs take place periodically throughout the year and volunteers are welcome to help as often as is convenient.
Brookside’s 223 year old building occasionally requires some tender loving care from both professional and hobbyist craftsmen. We are looking for people interested in carpentry, painting, landscaping and general repair. Ideally, Brookside is looking for a core group of interested individuals to call on when projects appear.
These volunteers are the public face of the museum. They will greet visitors, handle museum store sales, assist with clerical tasks and help keep the public areas of the museum tidy. Interested volunteers would need to be able to commit to 2 three hour shifts per week.
Love hosting parties, baking, designing floral arrangements and making a place welcoming to guests? We’re looking for people to help us prepare for exhibit openings, open houses and other special events. Brookside is looking to form a group of individuals we can call on for help and expertise as needed.
Are you looking for a great opportunity to help a local organization and gain community service credit? Want to make your résumé, college application or portfolio really shine? Join us at Brookside to learn valuable skills and explore career options. We are happy to work with school schedules and can suggest projects to help you gain the experience and hours you need.
Do you love working with historical objects, photographs or documents? Help Brookside document, inventory and display items in our collection. Collections volunteers are encouraged to sign up for weekly hours and are given specific projects to work on.
Genealogy & Research Volunteers
Are you a family tree detective? Do you enjoy census records, cemetery maps and family histories? Work with Brookside’s collection as well as the Heritage Hunters Library and other local resources to help answer genealogical queries and research upcoming exhibits. Genealogy volunteers are asked to sign up for weekly hours and help researchers who visit the museum.
The Volunteer Pool
Brookside offers a variety of unique programs and events throughout the year. Our 5K Race and Brooktoberfest fundraiser are two of our biggest events and require many hands to ensure success. Clean-up days and special projects also need volunteers. If you’re not available to commit to a regular volunteer schedule, members of the VP can make a difference by working with us on an as needed basis.
There’s lots of work to do at Brookside and we need you to help us get it done!
Return this form to Brookside attn.: Anne Clothier and we will be in touch to discuss volunteering at Brookside.
