As historians, in our efforts
to preserve the past, we sometimes forget that there are events happening
“right now” that also need to be preserved in the collections of historical
societies and museums. This past
year is one we will not soon forget----some say a watershed year in current
history. At a meeting of museum
professionals and village/town historians, Paul Loatman, Mechanicville City
Historian, suggested asking area high school seniors to give their reactions to
the events of this year, specifically September 11th, would be one
way of “collecting” the events of 2001-2002.
It is our goal to continue these dialogs with seniors in future years. Brookside will house these and future responses in
our archives.
