“That’s made out of FORKS?!”

“That’s made out of FORKS?!”

You’ll be saying that a lot when you see Brookside’s new exhibit featuring the work of local artist Matthew Bartik. Matthew makes all of his creative pieces using plain old dinner forks.

There is no welding, soldering, glue, or strings attached to these art forms. Each and every piece of fork art is constructed from stainless steel forks and is shaped from the strength of Matthew’s arms and hands and the tool of his trade, pliers.

From intricate bracelets (which make great gifts!) to extravagant larger than life works of art, Matthew’s pieces will make you smile, laugh, and shake your head in wonder.

This exhibit will be on display from the beginning of August through the end of September in the Long Room.

An artist’s reception with complimentary refreshments will be held on August 11th, from 6-8pm.

A Lesson in Philanthropy

A Lesson in Philanthropy

L’il Lambs Christian Daycare of Clifton Park had a lesson in philanthropy at Brookside last week.
5.6.10 Evan Dunn & Sean Walsh
L’il Lambs came to the museum for our popular education program Sheep to Shawl. After the students learned all about how our Saratoga County ancestors sheared sheep and turned their wool into clothing, their teacher, Connie Reynolds, asked if she could do one more lesson with her class. She wanted to teach them about philanthropy! She gave each of the kids a dollar and they all put their money into the museum’s donation box. Ms. Reynolds told her class before the field trip that non-profits rely on donations to be able to offer programs like Sheep to Shawl and wanted her students to show their support.

Thank you, Ms. Reynolds and L’il Lambs Christian Daycare!
