2017 Spring Programs and Events

Join us for these great upcoming events at Brookside!  We’re looking forward to hearing from some great presenters and organizations this spring.  All of these events are free and open to the public.

LONG ROOM LECTURE: MOUNT MCGREGOR THROUGH THE YEARS
Thursday, April 6 7:00 pm
Brookside is hosting Ben Kemp of Grant’s Cottage who will share the history of Mount McGregor from the Colonial era to the present. Most famous for being the location where President Grant passed away, the mountain in the town of Wilton has also been home to early settlers, a large hotel, a tuberculosis sanitarium and a prison. Pre-registration is not required. The program is free, but donations are gratefully accepted.

BALLSTON SPA FIRST FRIDAY
Friday, April 7 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Join us for the Ballston Spa Business and Professional Association’s First Friday event. This month’s theme is a reading celebration organized by PARP (Parents as Reading Partners). Ballston Spa Middle School’s 6th grade art show will open and will showcase artwork depicting many local historical landmarks. Refreshments will be served and the Invented in Saratoga County exhibit will also be on view.

LONG ROOM LECTURE: THE FAMOUS FOOTE FAMILY- SCIENTISTS, INVENTORS, ARTISTS, SUFFRAGISTS, AND SOCIALITES
Thursday, April 13 7:00 pm
Brookside researcher Sam McKenzie will present on the notable Foote family who lived in Saratoga Springs in the 1860s. Of particular interest are the exploits of Eunice Newton Foote, an inventor who filed various patents and signed the Declaration of Sentiments at Seneca Falls in 1848. Pre-registration is not required. The program is free, but donations are gratefully accepted.

LONG ROOM LECTURE: CORINTH IN THE CIVIL WAR
Thursday, April 20 7:00 pm
Corinth Town Historian Rachel Clothier will share information about life in the town of Corinth in the 1860s. Discover the stories of soldiers who served and the community members that supported the troops throughout the war. Pre-registration is not required. The program is free, but donations are gratefully accepted.

HUDSON MOHAWK ANTIQUE TOOLS AND TRADES ASSOCIATION MEETING
Sunday, April 30 12:00 pm – 3:30 pm
Join us for a meeting of the Hudson Mohawk Antique Tools and Trades Association! A selection of antique tools from the museum’s collection will be on display and there will be a program about saw sets. Participants are welcome to bring antique tools from their own collection to share and learn more about. A buy/swap gathering will be held outside at noon. The event is free and open to the public.

Programs are subject to change due to weather, illness and other circumstances.

Brookside Museum is located at the intersection of Front Street, Charlton Street and Fairground Avenue in the Village of Ballston Spa.  Additional parking is available along Charlton Street and on Front Street near the Old Iron Spring.
